Nimai and his family

Nimai’s story goes back sixteen years to the day when his wife gave birth to his daughter Manju. Nimai had just become a proud new father and rushed to his village from Kolkata to tell his family and friends the good news. However, before he reached the village Nimai was hit by a truck and left on the side of the road. Some people passing by found Nimai and took him to a hospital. Because Nimai was too poor to pay for proper treatment his wound never fully healed and to this day there is still a large hole in Nimai’s shin.

Nimai has suffered extensive pain for the last sixteen years. None the less, he has always worked hard to provide for his family and with his wounds wrapped in nothing more than a plastic bag he has faithfully gone to work at a garage cleaning vehicles. Nimai earns very little money and cannot afford to take the necessary time off of work to allow himself to heal.

KCM has been able to enter into Nimai’s life by building a new house for his entire family. The idea of a proper dwelling seemed an impossibility to Nimai, but today the family is all smiles as that dream has become a reality. We are also working to raise the necessary money for Nimai to have an operation that will finally allow his leg to heal. At the moment Nimai is uncomfortable with the thought of so much money being spent on him to mend his leg, but we are working to show him that the operation will allow him to better provide for his family in the long run.
