Sonia

Sonia, a bright and beautiful eleven-year-old girl living in the Bagmari slum, had to drop out of school in Class 2 due to her family’s financial situation. Her father, Sahankar Hari, is a kind and respected leader in the community who recognizes the value of education and the potential of his beloved daughter. Through the prayers and partnerships of many gracious donors, Sonia attended her first day of formal education in many years early in July 2008.

While we celebrate this happy occasion with Sonia and her family, most of the children living in the slum have also been prevented from attending school due to the burden of high tuition on their limited family income. Our hope is that through our informal education centre, the partnership of our sponsors and recruiting new donors, all of the children in this community will be able to pursue their dreams of a better education, just like Sonia.
